On 12th of August in the Kingdom of Thailand celebrates the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. This day is considered a holiday of all mothers in the "Land of Smiles".
In 1976, the Government of Thailand had decided to celebrate Mother's Day as a national holiday, because the Queen is considered as the mother of all Thai people. Preparing for the holiday starts 2 weeks before 12th of August. Across the country, the streets are decorated with portraits of the Queen, flowers and blue flags with the symbol of the Royal family.
The morning of the holiday, government officials, accompanied by a detachment of the Royal army and university students gathered at the high chapel in the heart of Bangkok and the process is sent to the Royal Palace. In the palace, they sing a song glorifying the Royal family and give flowers to the trustee of Her Majesty. In the evening, at the Royal Garden ceremony takes place where all those present lit candles, thus expressing gratitude and love for the Queen.
In the days of this wonderful holiday throughout all Thailand concerts and folk festivals, and Monks in temples read prayers dedicated to Mother's Day.
Her Majesty Queen Sirikit
Queen Sirikit was born in aristocratic family in Thailand. Her name translates as "glory and honor to family Kiriyakon". Father of the future Queen was a diplomat in France, where a young girl met her future husband and the King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej.
In March 1950, when the King came to the throne, Queen Sirikit has received the status. Since then she always accompanied by her husband. Her Majesty has earned numerous awards for his active participation in the social life of the country. She manages a variety of social programs and charities, addressing the issue of revival of national arts and crafts, helping vulnerable people. For all Thai people, the Queen is a role model and a symbol of feminine beauty.
